Routine Emergency Lighting Testing and Maintenance

Safe and Sound Fire Limited provides a wide range of Emergency Lighting Services. We supply, install and maintain Emergency Lighting for Commercial Property Owners, Retail Outlets, and Businesses of all sizes.

We Currently maintain Emergency in a wide range of locations; such as Offices, Shops, Churches, Industrial Premises, It is Important that Emergency Lighting is appropriately tested and maintained if it is to function to the standards set. Health and safety Legislation requires all commercial and public premises to have Emergency Lighting Installed in compliance with BS 5266 part 1: 2016.

Testing is designed to ensure that the existing Emergency lighting System provides sufficient Light to enable the safe evacuation of occupants: In the event mains failure of the standard Lighting Supply. The results of all testing and any necessary corrective action should be recorded in a log book, which should be kept on site. Records should be kept for Three years, and made available for inspection by any authorised person or enforcing authority.​

TESTING

  • Daily – Visually check that all Maintained Lights are operating and that all health system indicators ( L.E.D’S ) are Illuminated.
  • Monthly – Each Luminaire should be switched into an Emergency mode to ensure operation of each lamp. Each Luminaire should be returned to normal mode ensuring that mains indicators are energised.
  • Half Yearly Inspections – Complete a visit report giving condition and any recommended Action that may be required.
  • Annually – Each luminaire should be tested for its full rated duration. The Charging arrangements should be checked for proper functions.

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

The Fire (Scotland) Regulations 2006. and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (FSO) in England & Wales. States that Emergency Lighting is essential for the safety of building occupants. It is vital that the Emergency Lighting comes on if the power to normal lighting fails.
